Thanks for sharing Ruth,

you must have made a beautiful M.O.G.!

Ruth writes us in Sept: "Hi Barb- and everyone !  This Saturday I will be wearing a suit with Sawyer Brook fabric.  My son is getting married.     Very tailored and elegant.  I'm not the chiffon and sequin type.

The fabric is Pinot Noir #71116 (sorry no longer available) and the buttons are Victoria #863

Margie H  from Louisiana

Margie has been busy producing some stunning garments and she is sharing her pictures with us!

Mendeleev

The red cami makes a striking accent to the grey black, and the sleeve construction takes this jacket out of the ordinary realm...

Calloway over Freshwater Pearl Linen

One word... Adorable! The loops work so well with the jacket  fabric...

San Tropez

Nice detail with the double hems, and the color is so flattering!

 Thank you for sharing Margie!

Laura Wirkkala

Local sewing instructor, Laura Wirkkala, came shopping at the warehouse a few weeks ago.  She was generous enough to send photos of the projects she completed in her “personal” sewing time this summer.  If you want to know more about the classes she offers, see below!

Walter, in the The Boyfriend Robe

" I was able to make up some of the fabric I bought(at SBDF), right away.  I made a robe for my boyfriend.  I finished it Saturday, and here he is, wearing it.  It looks great on him and it looks even better made into a garment than when it was flat off the roll.  I thought you might like to see this. It is a McCall's pattern #8524."

"I used a men's shirt pattern I downloaded off of Sewingpatterns.com.  It is McCall's #4399.  It was a pain to trim and tape all of the pieces together (58 sheets of 8.5" x 11"!)  But, this is the 5th shirt I have made from this pattern.  So, it was worth it.  It fits my guy, Walter, perfectly.  On the sleeves, I added a small notch in the hem to add some detail.  The buttons I had match really nicely.  They are a mother of pearl with a grey/blue/green cast.  So, they look really good with this fabric.  I plan to put 2 on each sleeve on either side of the notch.   I need to buy more of those buttons to finish that part of the shirt, and then it will be complete."

The collar details

the notches

"I just finished the plaid shirt.   You will recognize the fabric.  I bought a remnant of it.  Total of 2 7/8 yds.  I had some left over, even with all of the matching I did.  I am sure that most people won't notice the matching work I did.  But, you will appreciate it.     I made a one piece collar.  You know, it is the one where you add the under collar to the sides of the upper collar and put a seam down the center of the under collar?  That way, you have a great collar point and the under collar sits well because it is on the bias.

I am making him a camp shirt out of a plaid I bought the same day.  It is half way done.  If I can get a picture of Walter in that, I will send it to you, too."

Patterned and designed by Martha Palaza

Assistant Professor of Fashion Design at Fisher College Boston, MA.

The design was inspired by the work of Armani and Max Mara.
(The 8/07  Burda issue has a pattern for a double collar jacket of which I used as a reference for construction.)

I think I say this for everyone... WOW! Thank you for sharing, Martha! Show us more!

3-26-08

Corinne, a familiar face around here at SBDF, stopped by the shop the other day with 2 jackets she created from vintage Vogue patterns.

She was kind enough to let me photograph them to share with you, too bad I couldn't persuade her to model them for me!

The fabrics are:

Pumpkin Patch (brown) wool 2 tone herringbone from Italy  with Braveheart buttons

Watermelon Supreme (pink) -double cloth  75% wool/25% cashmere from Italy  with Locket buttons

This was Corinne's first attempt at bound button holes. Stunning work Corinne! Thanks so much for sharing!

Sincerely,

Vivian M
