Call of the Wild

Out of Africa collectionWhether you’re trekking the wilds of Africa, or big game viewing on ESPN, the relaxed look and feel of natural fibers in soft earthy tones beckons.  Like the tides, the look waxes and wanes from one fashion season to another, but its presence is a comforting constant.  In recent years the look has morphed from animal prints to large scale botanicals with soft neutrals all the while following the pack.  This season, the “Out of Africa” solids of soft off-whites and natural khakis rule the savannah and hold court over beasty and botany.

Fabrics include: Loves Philosophy, Linaceae, Tambaqui, Pommery, French Vanilla, Bamboo in beige, & Vibe.

Buttons include: Castaway, Nutz in 3 colors, Quake, Wild One, & Bento.

Go Green!

Bamboo DuoGreen is not just a trend, but a way of life that is changing everything we do.  Change can be good when alternatives to former products are attractive and easily accessible.

We’ve just brought in a wonderful woven bamboo fabric in two neutrals, Beige and Black.  In addition to having a wonderful dry, drapey hand, this fabric offers characteristics that are appealing to all of us.  It is naturally absorbent, making it breathable and comfortable for warm climates.  In addition, it is anti-bacterial and odor-resistant, a perfect combination for sensitive skin.  This is definitely an easy care-easy wear fabric for blouses, dresses, and unstructured separates.  Keep your eye out for more eco-friendly fabrics as they make their way to our warehouse!

Sensational Scarves from the Heart

Velvet scarf trioHand crafted gifts bring us back to the spirit of this wonderful holiday season.  Scarves are quick work that yield big results in less time than finding that elusive parking space at the mall.  A few lengths of fabric and purchased beaded fringe result in beautiful one of a kind (or 2 of a kind) neckwear that says so much in a warm and thoughtful way.

As You Like It…

Shakespeare velvetsThe mood for fall dressing is soft, drapey, and relaxed.  In other words, velvet, especially stretch velvet, is key.  It’s glam, feels great to wear, and has romance appeal.  What other fabric can do all that?  What is also nice is the versatility.  Dress it down as a wrap top with your favorite jeans, funk it up with hot color and wear it as a comfy scarf with your fav jacket, or swish it around as a romantic skirt or soft flounced romantic femme fatale top.

Shakespeare Collection: A troupe of 8 colors!  Poly microfiber stretch. Special Purchase.  See all the colors on the Novelties page. $13.00/yard.

Other velvets:

  • La Scala Quad – crimini, claret, nero, or verde ottano Italian cotton stretch velvets.
  • City Lights & City in Darkness – Hot Dichroic color on black or black gloss on black poly stretch velvet.
  • Black Rose – fine glitter floral outlines on black poly microfiber stretch velvet.

Gr-rr-rrr…

It’s an Urban Jungle — Trending hot this season are animal prints.  Whether the print is the focus of your garment or an eye-catching trim, you’ll want to find a way to integrate this into your wardrobe this fall.  We’re seeing woven and knit dresses and tops, jackets, cardigans with printed panels, peek-a-boo pleated or gored skirts and softly structured tops with contrast facings.  And then, of course, the ultimate in lingerie and loungewear.
