Sew inFashion: Velvet

Postby Barb » Fri Oct 19, 2007 3:22 pm

Velvet is the talk of the moment. Who doesn't love it? There are so many different ways to go with velvet...

Cotton velvet is great for daywear, whether its jackets or jeans. Velvet microfibers are everywhere in casual wear and semi-formal dresses. And then there's silk! Watch for two wonderful silk crinkle velvets coming in the next few weeks. Great for scarves or elegant evening wraps.

How is velvet presenting itself in your wardrobe this season?

So Much Stretch Velvet... So Many Ways to Wear It!

Postby Colleen » Tue Oct 23, 2007 12:18 pm

The fall catalogs have come streaming in to my house and the one common thread I have found is the amount of stretch velvets I am seeing out there at RTW. romantic soft flouncy big shirts, fun scarves to make and give as gifts, stretchy jammie bottoms that you can actually put on to go OUT in public....YES! I am soo all for that one!
We recently got in 8 colors in stretchy velvet as well as some really nice higher end velvets too.
The hard part is picking out just one!!

Stretchy Velvets

Postby Barb » Tue Nov 27, 2007 7:21 am

We ran a sale over the weekend on our Shakespeare velvet collection and had a great response. I'd love to know what people are sewing with it. Anyone out there want to contribute their ideas?

catalogs

What catalogs do you receive? I'm just recently getting back into garment sewing. You can email me with the info at kip_n_crew@yahoo.com if posting it here is not within the etiquette.

I do want to make a velvet and silk dupion tree skirt before next Christmas.

Thanks,
Kip
Proud wife of Earl and 3 great sons. I've been sewing since I was a child and just recently decided to get back to garment sewing after years of quilting.
