Sew inFashion: Animal Prints

Postby Barb » Fri Sep 14, 2007 6:58 am

Designers can’t get enough of animal prints. We have so many unique interpretations at SBDF this season. If you like your print taken from nature, check out our newest offering in The Back Room. This soft as a kitty sweater knit in traditional leopard is perfect for a wrap sweater to transition into winter or an extra layer cardigan for home or office during the colder months…..
Some designers choose prints from nature re-colored for fashion. We like the inclusivity of this idea. It opens the doors of this trend to those who don’t do “neutralsâ€

I bought the Kitty-Kitty sweater knit. It is so yammy and right on the button - I couldn't pass it up. It is hard to find leopard prints in cool-tones. They usually are caramel/warm brown. This one is a rare cool rose brown shade. The heather jersey (from the trio) you had is almost a perfect match to the background.

I see a wrap cardigan with wide belt to go over a turtle neck and a pencil skirt. I'll get to it right after I make a velvet top for DD.

On the leopard print subject: I recently finished a blouse for DD from silk-jacquard "Exotica". It's blue/black leopard print blouse weight silk you had a few years back. My DD is trendier than I am (for the moment anyway) :)

I'm almost done with a sweater/jacket from the Nice Kitty Kitty fabric. It is truly wonderful. Although it is a bit more "out there" fashion-wise than tops I normally wear, the subtle shading on this piece makes this one I can enjoy wearing. I just have a little more hand work on the sleeve hems and then buttons and buttonholes. Maybe I can wear it this week with some nice brown pants!

Carole - I've never made a sweater with a sweater knit. What pattern are you using? I can't wait to see your photo.

Hi Lois,

The idea for the sweater jacket came from a newsletter I get from Nancy Erickson, who runs the Fashion Sewing Group. She offers/teaches wonderful projects that I have a lot of fun with.

I'm so close to done on this, I can almost taste it!

Carole, I've never made a top with a sweater knit. I hope you post a picture, tell us what pattern you used and did you have any difficulty with the buttonholes.
Happily sewing
