I have been really enjoying the new summer trending of the maxi length dress. This summer they have popped up in photos in all the celeb gossip mags. (I have had a number of Dr office visits lately!)
There are fun printed knits, silky halter styles with grecian twisty straps, as well as allover colorful silk and rayon prints. My favorite so far was a photo in US mag of Paris Hilton in a Testament pink/white knitted print maxi with oversized beads forming a neckline necklace sewn in place. It was available at Revolution clothing but it has since sold out. As a matter of fact when I poked around the webstores they all had tons of miniis left but the maxiis were all long gone. Why not make up your own? You can get some great ideas at fashionjunkee.com
Summer is a perfect time to stitch up and wear a maxi dress. Batiks make great maxi dresses. There are so many fun colorations to choose from right now. Comfy knits in solids and prints are such a wearable choice too. Something dressier would be a silk maxi, but all of them would be enhanced by adding a whisper or a shout of beading on the bodice or skirt. Sew beads only in the front if you like but --ahem you do not want to have to sit on them if you know what I mean...
Many of the styles I have seen are the empire variety with contrasting bodices or body. Tea length is a good choice for showing off pretty sandals (gladiator perhaps)or go full length for just a peek of pretty painted toes.
