Some of our buttons are miniature works of art, others are very utilitarian. Dixie and I spent the past three days at a sewing Expo in Worcester (Central Mass) and had so much fun listening to sewers and designers think outloud about their projects as they browsed the button boards. I thought I'd share a few ideas we heard.

The Flirt button will become eyes on some uniquely designed dolls.

Terme will adorn a stunningly crafted sashiko evening bag.
Someone else chose a very different button for the same project. It's a brand new button--square antique pewter with lacy openwork. We'll post it next week. Similar projects, two very different interpretations!

Dragonfly will be used in stamping
And County Fair will adorn a pair of flip-flops! What a cute idea!
So its fun to be out and about with our buttons because we hear so many different uses for the buttons we love. It feeds our creative soul. Anyone else want to share a use for buttons that they've found?

I am making a quilt for my granddaughter's H.S. graduation, using fabric remnants from outfits that I have made for her since she was a little girl. The quilt squares have appliques of flipflops and I am placing buttons at the spot on the flipflop where the piece comes up between the toes. Some of the buttons I am using are tiny butterflys and fish.

That sounds adorable! I was shoe shopping yesterday and saw some cute canvas sandals that had a decorative button on the toe strap. It was a plain four-hole button in a matching color to the canvas. I thought it would be fun to change it to more of a whimsical button. Sadly I couldn't find the right combination of color and size for my needs. But I thought the idea was fun and will keep my eye out for another shoe I can embellish. In my opinion, the look was not tacky, simply textural and fun.
