|
|
| I've got the La Jolla fabric in black laid out on my cutting table to cut out another Capri Jacket. Has anyone worked with this fabric yet? It is lovely and soft. I think I may end up cutting out each front separately. The weave of the fabric is so visible, I think it will be really noticeable if the front edges are not perfecly aligned. The light will be better in the morning and I guess I'll do it then. I'll have to be really careful about the sewing too. It would be a shame to sew it even a little crooked.

| Hi Natalia, I posted a picture of the Luxor jacket in week six and a picture of the Pueblo jacket and tank top in week 7. How is yours coming along?

Carole,
I missed your photo and now it's not there anymore. Bummer
I was out of the loop for a few weeks. I had a change in my work schedule; added a few hours. I was adjusting to that. It takes me some time to get used to working more hours, after that it feels like that's the way it always was.
Sorry I missed your pictures.

Hi Nata
The pictures are still in the salon. Click on Capri Week Six and Week Seven and you should see them. If not, let me know and I'll investigate.
Glad you're back with us. I'm off next week, but I really hope to get a few minutes in the sewing room this weekend to work on my jacket.

Barb,
I can't see any pictures, or any indication that there is a picture missing.
I can see the posts saying "here is the picture", but no pictures in the post, and no links. I wonder if there is something wrong with my settings.
I checked both week 6 and 7. Thank you for looking into this.

Carole,
I love your jackets. Big thanks to Barb for fixing the pictures for me; I am able to see them now.
The Luxor is my favorite. I would love to have it in my wardrobe. It looks so airy and delicate. And it'll go with a lot of bottoms, being a neautral white color.
Thank you for sharing the pictures, I really enjoyed seeing them.
My Capri jacket is in limbo, unfortunately. I am over-planned with sewing projects for the next few weeks. I didn't notice how it happened, but back to school time is here again. DD grew a lot; all of her pants are short now. I have untill the end of September to come-up with whole new wardrobe for her. And then it'll be a pinic mode because DS grew even more, and he'll have nothing to wear for winter. He is a SAHB (stay-at-home-baby:) so we don't fuss much about his clothes. Plus I can buy stuff for him easier than for DD. I find selection of kids stuff so limited. There are a lot of choices, but all pretty much the same. I end up sewing a lot for her.

|
|
Ok, I was able to start my seam finishes before leaving on vacation. I'm sitting in my hotel room posting this, so bear with me BTW, our son, aka Savvy Admin, is getting married this weekend! It's a busy time for us. We're all so excited!
Back to sewing...I chose a rayon batik as contrast for my hong kong seam finish. I know the color combination is a little weird, but I like it! Rusty nail is a deep reddish brown washed linen. I chose Parfumerie batik which is an all over floral print of purple and fuchsia with a bit of cornsilk yellow. I probably wouldn't put the two together as an outfit, but for contrast inside I think it works well.
Since I was using Loes Hinse's guidelines, I have 3/8" seams. Normally I would cut a 1 1/4" bias strip, but I reduced that to 3/4". I think the next strip I will cut just a tad wider since I found some of the rayon difficult to catch in the second stitching. On a 5/8" seam allowance I would make my first stitching (right sides together matching raw edges of seam allowance and bias strip) at 1/4" I lessened that to 1/8" on this one and trimmed the linen just a tad. I then hand pressed the seam and rolled the bias around the allowance. I pinned carefully and stitched in the ditch. You can see by the pictures that the bias strip settles in nicely on the back side.
When I tell people I'm doing a hong kong finish they groan..., but I find if you pace yourself and don't try to do it all in one sitting, it's really quite enjoyable. I look forward to getting back to it next week when I return home.
