This morning I cut out a new Capri Jacket out of the black La Jolla fabric. I had not marked the right side of the fabric when I cut the yardage at SB, so I spent some time in the natural light trying to figure out which side I liked best. Both sides are really similar, so I just needed to be consistent once I made the decision. Finally I picked one side that I thought had more texture. I cut this jacket out an inch and a half longer in length than the others I've made. I know I'll wear a solid black jacket a lot and I need it to be a little longer to go over the lower waisted jeans!
As I was cutting I saw that the edges were ravelling more than I wanted to deal with. I knew I had two options - I could either sew the jacket together right away or finish the edges and take my time. I'm planning on lining the jacket so I skipped the seam finishing and just sewed it up. The jacket goes together so easily, I was done with the work at the machine by noon. I still need to do the hems by hand (my preference). Tomorrow when I'm at SB I'll pick up lining, small shoulder pads and hopefully Dixie will be there to help me pick out some great buttons.
The weight of the La Jolla fabric is very appealing to me. It drapes almost like the rayon chenille that we had in a recent mailing. It's just so soft, but still has some heft.
