After a nice beach vacation, I'm back at the sewing machine. I cut out the lining for my jacket on Monday and sewed it together yesterday. This morning I sewed it to the body of the jacket. I still need to do sleeve and bottom hems.
The lining adds a fabulous body to this jacket. I am delighted with the weight and drape of it. And I'm glad I took the pockets off! The jacket looks very upscale, even in it's somewhat raw state.
For my first linen jacket, I certainly couldn't ask for anything more. The days are noticeably shorter here in Mass. now. I know it won't be long until I'll be looking around for something over my tee shirt in the evening. This jacket will be fun to reach for.
Now that I'm so close to finishing, I'm really motivated to spend more time on it.

Here's a picture of my finished jacket! What you can't see in the photo is the lovely weight and drape of the lined, washed linen. The cut of the pattern is wonderful too. It's kind of slouchy, in a very upscale way. I can hardly wait to wear this to dinner tomorrow night!

Carole - The jacket looks wonderful! You must be very pleased! Tell us - did you wear it out to dinner?
Sorry I've been out of touch and not participating....I've been out of town for family matters. So I've been out of step and not sewing. But am really anxious to dive into a new project now that I'm back home.
Thanks for your inspiration...I've been catching up on your progress, reading through the posts. My plan is to get back to my Capri jacket sometime over this weekend.

Hi Lois, Glad you are getting back to sewing. I did indeed wear my jacket Sat. night. We went to our favorite restaurant in Boston's North End. It was even a little cool and my jacket was the perfect weight! So much fun!
I made a couple of changes to the pattern that I haven't yet mentioned. In addition to eliminating the patch pockets on the front, I eliminated the topstitching that runs parallel to the front edges. Topstitching there just seemed too stiff the the lovely linen. The pattern also calls for four buttons on the front. I used three. I placed one at my bust point and then evenly spaced the other two to the lower edge. The collar falls open so nicely that I just couldn't see ruining the line with buttons and button holes.
Last Thursday when I was working at SB I picked up two more pieces of fabric to make this jacket out of. I picked up the Purple Brick Road, a lovely rayon and silk blend, and a medium blue suede like fabric - I've forgotten the name. I think both will work up into nice casual jackets that I can wear this fall.

Carole,
You jacket is very lovely. Such a pretty color. What buttons did you use? They coordinate with the fabric so well.

| Hi Natalia, I used a natural shell button that Dixie picked out. The shell is a medium green and there is some etching on it. I forgot to get the name of it yesterday at SB. I'll try and do that tomorrow. Shell buttons are my all time favorite because of all the subtle colorations.
