I worked a bit on my jacket today. Because I'm going to line it, I'm not following the pattern directions exactly. For instance, instead of attaching the back yoke facing, I'll use a back neck facing.
I was able to stitch the sleeve seams and topstitch them. I also topstitched the back yoke and front yokes. I sewed the collar together and pressed it on my Tailor Board.
The jacket is looking good! There is a lot of topstitching, so I already had to rewind a bobbin. Tomorrow I'll pick up more at SB. I also need to cut some rayon bemberg lining in a soft green.
Since I took the patch pockets off the jacket fronts, I'm thinking of adding one or two small ones to the lining to hold a bit of money, a lipstick etc.

More time to sew this afternoon. I am loving this project. I got the sleeves set in, the side seams sewn, collar attached and front/neck facings stitched on. The jacket is going to be so nice. I like the weight of it and the lines are very flattering.
There are a lot of instructions for pattern. Some I find useful, some I just ignore. I do think, though, that if you are a new sewer all of the tips and excellent illustrations would be very helpful. I liked the tip to align the top stitching across the back of the yoke and the top stitching of the upper and lower sleeve pieces. Ms. Cutting suggests pinning those stitching lines to match and then stitching just across that junction, and a few inches on either side. This allows you to first check your work before you commit to the entire seam. I ripped out one side a few times before I was happy with my work. I'll use this tip on other projects in the future.
I'm so excited to get the jacket lined and hemmed. Dixie selected some lovely natural shell (always a favorite of mine) buttons for the front. It's too hot and humid here to even dream of wearing a jacket any time soon, but I'll have this ready and waiting in my closet when the afternoons start to cool off!
