|
|
| I just recently purchased Vanilla Ice and it is heavier than I thought. I was thinking blouse when I ordered it , but now I don't think so. Anyone care to suggest a specific pattern? I don't think I'd like it for a bottom so I guess I'm looking for a jacket pattern.

I purchased 2 yds., and it is 60", so plenty for jacket and more than enough for most dresses. Love the neckline on that dress, but I think I'd get more use out of a jacket, although it is tempting. I was thinking of THIS JACKET because it is unlined and looks a bit more like a blouse. I think that is the key with this fabric, the jacket should be easy and unlined and not too structured. But I don't want an shapeless, over size fit either.
OTH THIS HOT PATTERNS DRESS may be nice too, if I have enough fabric.

Liz - I like both patterns. The dress pattern would allow you to use the stripes in interesting ways. However, I can see that a jacket in Vanilla Ice would be very versatile and you'd get a lot of wear I think.
Love that fabric - keep us posted on what you decide.

| Now I'm leaning toward THIS JACKET I think the bias cuffs and side panels would be nice with this striped fabric. I was really leaning toward the Hot Patterns dress, but then I checked out some reviews on Pattern Review. It sounds like most everyone has had issues with the drafting and fit. I don't have enough confidence in my pattern drafting skills (which are nonexisent) to tackle this dress. Alterations, like FBA, forward shoulder, shortening here, lengthening there; these things I can do. I like this fabric too much to use it to learn pattern drafting.

Oh! I like that pattern with your fabric. One thought......I would do a test on the fabric by gathering it a little bit and see if you like the look. Is it too stiff or will it lay flat enough for you? Looks like that jacket has some gathering correct?
How will you care for the jacket after you make it? Washing might soften it, and/or change the look of the stripes. Have you tried to wash a sample?

LizGo -
I really like that second McCall's jacket - how did you find it and what number is the pattern- your link doesn't show a number? Last fall I was at the PACC conference in San Francisco, and did some snoop-shopping in Neiman Marcus - found a jacket there I've been wanting to do for myself, and this patten has the lines and pieces I'm looking for.

Sorry it took so lonG to reply! The number is 5477 and I found it on the McCalls site. [HERE] I've been too busy to sew so Vanilla Ice is on the back burner for now. I think I will go with my original pattern choice [THIS ONE 5396][url][url] when I do get around to sewing again.
