Hi Mary! We're glad you are joining in. I can't believe it's already week four. I'm going in to SB tomorrow to cut fabric and I absolutely have to remember to pick up shoulder pads. Tomorrow evening I would like to cut out the Pueblo and La Jolla fabric. Last weekend I was in NYC and at one of the big fabric stores in the garment district and I'm really looking forward to getting in my sewing room and cranking things out. But life gets in the way. I've signed up for an early, early morning class this week and I'm teaching a pre-teen sewing class later in the morning. Tonight there is just no energy left for cutting anything out. Hopefully everyone else is having fun!

Welcome Nancy! Glad to have you along on our creative journey. Some of your warm Arizona summer has made it's way to Massachusetts today. It is hot here - and we have some humidity to boot. My sewing room is not air conditioned but I spent some time there today anyway.

Like everyone else, I have a hard time finding time to sew. My days are busy with activities and I have a house and yard to care for. But I squeezed in some time gardening tonight and felt I deserved to spend some time sewing before I called it a day. So even though it was hard to scrub the dirt off my hands I did it and settled down to work on my Capri Jacket. I finally managed to remember to pick up shoulder pads at SB (small set in pads) so I sewed those in. Then I secured the lining along the bottom edge. I still need to secure the sleeve lining to the sleeve hems, sew the button holes and sew on the buttons. Maybe I'll get to those tomorrow, if it cools down some!

Do you guys remember Nancy Zieman's book 10-20-30 mintues to sew? Well, I decided my life lends itself better to 5-10-15 minutes to sew!!! I was determined to start my muslin over the weekend. Well, I got it cut out, that's all. Then I planned to stitch it up and fit it Monday. Finally, early this morning I stitched it, but have yet to do fine tuning to the fit.

I'll be brutally honest here...I have a hard time fitting sewing into my life these days. It's one of the reasons I signed on to do this project. I figured at the very least I can produce a simple unstructured jacket! And I will! I'll post as soon as I have some meaningful fitting issues to discuss. Where is everybody else in the process?

Baby steps again today. I managed to secure the sleeve lining to the sleeve hem. That's it.

I'm so excited about joining in on the jacket! I ordered penny candy to do mine in. I probably won't be here when it arrives, though. Tomorrow I fly to Chicago, where my daughter is picking me up at the airport, and we immediately head for Seattle...
I know that doesn't make much sense, but she is being transferred to Seattle after 6 months of training with her employer in Milwaukee. Her husband is moving all the furniture from Phoenix, but she wanted a companion to ride along with her, so here I go! Anything to get out of this heat. Expected to hit 114 in the next couple of days.
With all of this heat, it's unbelievable that I'm doind a jacket, but when the mood strikes - you all know how it is, don't you? Rolling Eyes
I've got my muslin ready to cut out, so I'll be ready for my fabric when I get home.
I'll check in next week - I hope you won't all be done and on to other things. If you are, I'll just go back to previous posts and pretend like they are in real time.
Have a great week!

Penny candy is a great fabric... I was working with swatches of it the other day at SB. It would be fun to line it in a bright color that matches the stripes!

OK - I'm back home from my trip. I've been looking forward to July because my calendar is relatively free and uncluttered so I'm going to pencil in some sewing time. And I am going to take a lesson from Barb and do the 10-20-30 minute plan to get the ball rolling. My Capri jacket has not been started and a muslin is the 1st order of business.

My 10 minute segment will be getting the pattern pieces out and pressed.
My 20 minute segment will be finding my muslin fabric, and press that - lay out on my cutting table.

When I visit the sewing room next, I'll be ready to go for a longer segement of time, and get that muslin started.

Is anyone else diving into this project yet?
