Question Hi, A friend was cleaning out her fabric stash and gave me some beautiful silk georgette - enough to make a dress! Yeah. I've picked a nice flowing dress pattern. I've never sewn this type of fabric before and have no idea what type of lining to use. The "Fabric Savvy" book by Sandra Betzina says to use silk georgette for the lining. But I read somewhere else not to line silk with silk due to the static electricity. I live in the southeast. Am torn between using Ambiance or Hang Loose. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Patricia

Hi Patricia
How lucky are you to get such a nice gift! My personal preference would be Ambiance. The hand is so creamy and it will drape well underneath the silk georgette. If you want to use silk, how about silk charmeuse? The georgette will slide over the satin and hopefully reduce the static.

Very Happy Thank you. I can't wait to get started. But it will have to wait until I can make new cushions for my pregnant daughter's rocker/glider and curtains for my 2 1/2 yr old granddaughter, knit a baby afghan for her soon to be sister. Sewing for myself is a little further down the list. But I will get to it!

The Ambience lining is really nice! I think Bemberg is the same thing. I can't tell the difference. They are both very soft, luxurious rayon, and for a nice dress, it would be worth the splurge.

Just an FYI for everyone. Ambiance is the brand name; the rayon is Bemberg which is a trademarked name for cupramonium rayon. It's a very fine rayon which produces the creamy hand that we know and love.
