Automatic Log-In

I've been trying to use the automatic log-in feature, but it's not working from my computer. I have checked the box for automatic login, but the next time I come to the site, I have to log in again. Any idea what's going on?

Hi Dixie,

Here are a couple things to try (if you are using Internet Explorer -- if another browser, let me know):

On your toolbar, Go into Tools > Internet Options. On the Privacy tab, make sure the slider is set to "Medium." The medium setting is usually needed to make sure that sites can remember you by storing a "cookie" on your computer. If you would rather not change to your settings to medium (or if medium still isn't working for you), try step 2.
On the same tab, click the "Sites" button. Type sawyerbrook.com in the entry field, and click "Allow." This will make sure that your browser lets the Salon store a cookie to remember you.

Hopefully that does the trick. Let me know if you are still having problems.

Another reason that you may have trouble with the automatic login is if you are in the habit of clicking "log out" before you leave the site. Logging out overrides the automatic login.

The default process is for the Salon to keep you logged in only for a set amount of time after you leave the site (or until you close your browser). After this happens, your web browser "forgets" that you were logged into the site and asks you to log in again.

The automatic login feature is designed to make sure that your browser does not forget you after you leave. However, if you manually click "log out," you are effectively telling your browser to forget (at least until you login again and re-activate the automatic login). It is necessary for things to work this way if, suppose, another Salon user were to borrow your computer to access their account. The browser needs to "forget" about your account in order to give the other user access. You can always refresh your browser's memory by logging in again.

So, the best strategy if you are the only Salon user on your computer (and it's not a public computer where others could wander into your account) is to use the automatic login feature and never manually log out. It should remember you even if you close your browser, restart your computer, etc.

I'm the token Mac user in the bunch (yeah, I know, the troublemaker!!) Any differences in using Firefox rather than Explorer? I default to Firefox because it works so much better for me, in general, but occasionally run into a site that doesn't work properly on it - buttons don't click, text missing etc. None of that with this site, so far, though. I don't know yet if the auto log-in works for me - I keep forgetting to click it before I sign on, so haven't tried it yet!

Yes, everything on the Salon works beautifully with Firefox (I use it myself). As long as you have cookies enabled on your Privacy tab, I would not expect any difficulties with the auto-login.

Thanks! I checked, and I do have cookies enabled. And the log-in worked - I remembered to check the box.
