I purchased Vine Ripe Double - it's a cotton double cloth. Do you recommend special seam treatment for this particular fabric? I doesn't feel as thick as wool double cloth, so I'm thinking that I don't need to do special butt seam treatment. What do the ladies at Sawyer Brook recommend?

Thanks

Ok I spent some time looking at that fabric today. I think you can use it as a single layer, esp. in the pattern you have chosen. I think careful grading of the seams will be important in angled areas. I like the drape for the pattern you've chosen. Have you made this before? Do you adjust the shoulders at all? I like the neckline and the body of the jacket for me, but I would be concerned that the extended shoulder would be overwhelming on me and might make the whole garment look like too much fabric on me. What's your experience? Can't wait to see the fnished product. I love the Vine Ripe and I think it will be a great color for you.

Yes I have made this garment before and I like the simple style. I normally wear it open with the color draped in a lapel fashion on each side. One thing that attracted me to this pattern was the yoke look, and the shoulder line being right on the shoulder, not dropped down the arm. Years ago I wore shoulder pads inside it. But now I wear it without shoulder pads. It fits fine on my shoulder without them.

Do you mean you think I can sew standard seams? That's what I'd like to do. After cutting I will try some samples.

Thanks

I think the test is the key. It would appear that you could use a standard seam. I'll be curious as to what you discover when you test.
