Another season of Project Runway!

The first challenge, reminiscent of Season 1, was tough- the designers were allowed only grocery store items. The episode aired Wednesday at 9 but if you missed it you should be able to catch a rerun before the next show.

Who is everyone's favorite designer so far? They seem more experienced this season, but some of them have, uh, unique points of view.

Does anyone agree/disagree with the winner/loser of the challenge?

It was a good episode wasn't it? I'm bummed because my favorite designer (from his background) was the first loser! Now I need to find another one that I like.

If I were working on this challenge I would use tortillas! I would use them in spinach and white and I would make a skirt to show off the curves and circles and then somehow I would have to mold them for a bodice on top. Doing a dress is the only choice, I think, because of shorter construction time. Then somehow I would use produce to make a salsa belt.

I liked the yellow dress with the kale and tomato accent!

Boy, I got behind on this one...didn't realize a new season had begun. I'll try to catch up online. Keep talking about it and I'll join in when I can be current. Thanks for the heads up.

I think there's a rerun tonight on Bravo at nine if you want to catch up..... they also usually run the previous week's episode before the new one, so Wednesday at 8pm they will probably run it (right before the new episode at 9pm).

I watched the first one last week, and I completely agree with the choices for winner and loser. The died vacuum bags for the skirt of that dress was genius! Having missed this week's episode on Weds., I was pleasantly surprised to turn on Bravo during the 8-9 hour last night to find episode 1 running, with 2 immediately following. There should be no shortage of times to catch up on any you've missed, Barb!

And I have to agree with Nina Garcia - the fastest way to look "cheap" or worse is shiny, tight and short!

Janee,

I also (grudgingly) agree with Nina! The part I found funny was that Heidi Klum's dress was also shiny, tight, and short!

Zigzagger,

Yes, but hers fit and looked more elegant. I don't doubt the fabric was a much higher quality as well. I can really relate to the problems those designers had, having to work with the fabric chosen by the models. The worst projects for me in my custom business have always been the ones where my client has come to me with the fabric already purchased by someone with no concept of how to choose the right fabric for the garment!

Janee,

That must be difficult, when your customers bring in fabric that really doesn;t fit.

I agree that Heidi's dress was more elegant and made with higher quality fabric, but I still enjoy the irony of Nina's comment.

Looking forward to tomorrow's episode!

Finally, I am caught up with you guys! I've watched all three episodes. I have some favs already, but not sure how it will play out. Suede is totally annoying, but talented! Loved his woven bodice in the second episode, however didn't care for the design or the workmanship on last night's episode. I also like Kenley's skills. I don't care for her style as much as I do her execution and that takes people a long way in this business. Stella has a unqiue perspective, but it appears that she is talented. Also am watching Terri, Leanne and Korto....ok, guess I don't have one fav yet!!!
At least last night's challenge showed more of the designer's point of view than the previous challenges. I much prefer the episodes that deal with fabric rather than groceries!

Who else is watching?

I always forget who did what. I personally don't do black, but I liked the two piece black dress with the tank top and the "shelves" on the skirt. My favorite projects involve "real" clothes.

I'm with you, Candy - that was my favorite this week too. That skirt was unbelievably cute and beautifully crafted. I was also surprised that she pulled off such a well-made top, after all the time she put into the skirt. I think that's Leanne's - and she was almost eliminated last week! I was surprised, after the judges' comments during the discussion of their favorites and worsts, that Kenley wound up winning the challenge - I thought they all liked Leanne's. And Barb, I agree with you - Suede has got to be the most annoying. What's with the talking about himself in the 3rd person???

I almost forgot about Leanne's "lapped" skirt and top. I loved it and was pleased to see someone who had done so poorly the week before come back to be in the final three. Good job!
Based on the comments, I thought either Terri (urban leggings and backless tunic) or Leanne (black separates) would win. Last week I was working at home in the a.m. and my DH called out to me to let me know Tim Gunn was on a morning talk show. Of course, I dropped what I was doing to go and watch the interview Laughing The interesting part of the conversation was that he said he almost never agreed with the choice of the judges! He attributed that to the fact that he is watching the projects evolve and the work of each designer as they create and execute. His choices would be different based on those observations.

Barb,

I was so glad to see that they were able to pick out real fabric last night! It lets them really use their skills. I loved Leanne's dress last night- It was positively stunning! I also liked Kenley's dress a lot, although I didn't really like the printed fabric. I enjoy her sense of style.

Barb,
It's interesting that Tim doesn't always agree with the judges. I think the decisions would be more fair if they replaced Nina or Heidi with Tim in the judging- he knows so much more about each designer, and their techniques. I think he would be able to provide better judgment, because he sees each design for more than the 30 seconds it takes them to walk down the runway.
