I thought I'd start a new Thread to discuss knit tops. There are so many great patterns out there for knits I'm beginning to experiment. I don't have a lot of experience sewing on knits but this top came out great. It's Vogue 2980 a Sandy Betzina pattern. I used a SawyerBrook knit from last winter called Eggs-actly. I love knits with Lycra. Sew beautifully and fit great.

It's a close fitting top so I made it a size larger. But the horizontal neckline did not stay straight on my body - it gapped a bit. So when you try this pattern don't go up a size. I spent more time downsizing it.

The sleeve cap seemed too big so I cut that 1 size smaller. The instructions are very good and if you follow them step by step it's easy to put together. And it's fast! If you don't have to rework the fit like I did!!!

Lois,

Such a nice top! I've made several from another of Sandra Betzina's patterns, V 8151 view A with the surplice front, and I discovered her sizing is really true to measurements but the fit still depends completely on the knit you're using. The shoulders and upper torso fit beautifully in the size I chose according to my high bust measurement. I took in the side seams of the first one I did by 2" or more, and even after making that adjustment when cutting out my second top, I still had to take it in more! But I love sewing with the knits too. I've used the wool jersey in Caramel, Block Print in poly, and, for a client, Spokes in rayon, and they've all worked out well.
