We were chatting away in the cutting room yesterday about some of our favorite fabrics in the spring/summer collections. It's so interesting to hear the wide variety of opinions. We know by our orders that our customers have varying opinions also. This is great because it means we're reaching a lot more people than if just one or two fabrics were the favored colors, fibers or designs!
Anyway, it got Carole and I thinking we should ask what your favorite Sawyer Brook fabric is this season? Did you buy it or are you just lusting after it? How do you envision it in a finished garment? Do you love the fabric and are not sure how to use it? If so, post here and we'll all brainstorm with you. Have you bought it and made it up already? If so, please share your vision to reality story.
We'd love to hear from you. Don't be shy!!

One of my favorite new fabrics is Melany, a navy and khaki floral print in a lightweight stretch cotton. Yesterday I brought enough home to make a new, long sleeved blouse. I'll use a Jalie shirt pattern, that my daughter tried out a couple of months ago. The fit is sleek and mod looking. I brought home a navy thread, although you could use a khaki color.
I also brought home some the the Open Sesame, for a longish skirt.
I'm thinking of a new jacket out of the Crushed Stone tweed. A new jacket for June would be nice. For those of you who live outside of New England, it is still jacket weather here!

Carole - I love Melany - that is a wonderful print. I have used Jalie patterns for knits but haven't tried their shirt pattern. I'll look forward to seeing a pic of your blouse when it's done.
Could post a link to Open Sesame?

Barb - I was lusting after Back Room's Charlestowne Landing but see that's sold out! ugh - I waited too long!
Now I am considering Queens Street for a fitted jacket and Ashley for a sleeveless summer blouse. Do you think those two fabrics can be worn together? Would the jacquard in Ashley be too busy?
From the new Summer swatches I love Sandspray but would love suggestions on what to make with that.
Thanks

Sorry I took so long to respond to your question. I did all the research last week and then went off for the weekend!! So here's the answer...
Queenstreet is much more white than Ashley. The best coordinate for Queenstreet would be a pure white such as White Flag or a silver or bronze color. Right now we don't have either in stock, but we'll keep an eye out for you.
Ashley is a lovely shade of ivory leaning to vanilla. The non-floral design of the jacquard is stunning and sophisticated. It will make a perfect summer blouse. We have a number of textures that coordinate with that color. Mackinac, a silk tweed, Dallas in 4 colors, and Twillingate.

We've been musing over SandSpray. Everyone loves it...here are some suggestions that came up.
a long shift style dress for summer
a long straight skirt
a tunic top
an open unstructured jacket, straight or swing
As you can see all these ideas keep the design lines very simple so the embroidery can best be displayed.
Any other thoughts?

| Barb, You are so right about a jacket being appropriate for many occasions. Right now I am making a jeans jacket from a cotton eyelet--Silver Dust-- that I bought last summer. As soon as I saw that fabric I knew that I wanted to make a jeans jacket from it. I plan to wear it to a casual evening wedding on the beach with a navy skirt and top. I know I will wear it a lot at other times. I had fabric left over and am also making an eyelet sundress for a granddaughter. Fun!

Hi BrendaJo - That sounds like a great use for that fabric - so pretty. I like the idea of a navy coordinates to pair with it. So perfect for a beach wedding. (I also love Cape Cod!) My parents had a house in S. Harwich until a a year ago. I spent many hours walking the beach near their house.
Keep us posted on your project. Do you plan to use buttons or snaps for closures?
