Carole came into work the other day and shared with me her experience at the post office. She was in a long line and noticed that the woman in front of her was wearing a skirt (ready-to-wear) made from the Pendleton whisper wool plaid we have in stock right now. Ambrosia Plaid is a large scale plaid in peach and pineapple...very springy! The skirt Carole spotted was pleated and topped with a lovely silk sweater. She was glad to have the time to study the construction of the skirt as she stood in line!

This may sound a little funny to non-sewers, but all of us who create fashion garments in our sewing room totally understand the process in Carole's head. Share some of your experiences!

Oh Yes Barb! I do the same thing....frequently notice what other people are wearing and determine if that look is right or wrong for me. I like to get ideas on combining colors and garment detail ideas by people watching. And like Carole, it's cool to be able to stand in line to study a stunning outfit. What an advantage to check out the pleats and techniques used in the RTW garment. Many times I have made a quick sketch of an interesting button closure or other interesting techniques I see out and about.

How about old movies? We can get style ideas from how movie stars are dressed. One of my favorites was Lauren Bacall. My personal style is Classic-Tailored and her wardrobe always spoke to me.

I own a book about Princess Diana's clothing too. Not everything she wore was my style but the fashion ideas, coordinating color, and designer details are plenty when flipping through that book.

I do it all the time. Especially in church when I get distracted by a woman who wears clothing with seams that don't match and uneven hems. I'd love to give her some sewing and fitting lessons. I tell myself to concentrate on the church service not on someone else's clothing
but even my husband notices and says its too bad that I can't help her out.

Brenda,

I'm so glad to hear someone else does that in church! I find myself distracted by unmatched seams and poor fit all the time. It's always such a relief to find myself behind someone nicely dressed in well-made clothing!
