The mint green Hideaway fabric is so different! The stretchy white pleats make it so unusual. Does anyone have a blouse pattern that would excentuate the design? I was thinking of one of those surplice fronts that tie on the side....

The Hideaway fabric has caught my eye, too. Barb and I spent some time studying it this week, and we came to some conclusions that I hope will be helpful in selecting a pattern for it.
First of all, the fabric is crisp, and not at all drapey, so it wouldn't be suitable for patterns that require drape. We wondered if the pleats would survive the laundering process, so Barb washed a piece. It came through the process very well. The pleats stayed sharp, and there was very little wrinkling from the dryer.
Secondly, the vertical direction of the irregular pleats determines what styling would be best for it. If the fabric is hung crosswise (as it would be on a shirt yoke, for example), the pleats stretch out, exposing wide, uneven horizontal white stripes. The same would happen if the garment was cut on the bias (a skirt), only the stripes would be on the bias. I believe the most attractive use of Hideaway would be if the garment was cut on the vertical grain, so that the pleats would open up a bit over body curves, and during movement. This would allow a glimpse of white, rather than wide, uneven stripes. A simple, darted shirt with seams only at the sides and shoulders would make great use of the pleating. A staight-cut skirt or sundress would also look nice.
The last thing Barb and I found with Hideaway is that the pleats will need to be stabilized at the seamline before the seam is stitched. Barb suggested using fabric glue for this purpose - a good idea. Does anyone know of a tape that would hold the pleating but be removeable after the seam is sewn?
I've ordered Peggy Sagers' Classic Blouse pattern (silhouettepatterns.com), which I hope to make with this fabric. If that ever happens, I'll keep you posted!
Any other pattern ideas out there?
