Ok, who watched it? What did you think?
I recorded it and watched it in several sittings so my observations may be disjointed. When I watched the first half hour--mostly introductions, I was disappointed at the group of designers chosen. This used to be about newbies to the field. Most of this season's contestants are already established in the design field. I thought it was more fun when more ordinary people found their design voice.
Watching the second half in two 15 minute segments, I did, as always, enjoy seeing the vision become reality. The disaster that Simone presented almost seemed staged. Could anyone really have her experience and perform so badly? Sorry Simone.
I will continue to follow the show, but I'm a bit disappointed that we won't be seeing break out stars as in past seasons. Anybody else feel this way?

I watched and I'm so excited to see this show back again. I did not feel disappointed. In an article I read, they said the skill and experience level were higher this season to keep the show interesting. The article said keeping the show constant would cause it to be stale. I agree with Barb it's fun to see the newbie designers, however I am looking forward to more more complex designs brought to life with brilliant execution. I hope I'm not disappointed in the end.
If I remember correctly Simone's background was in the costume arena so my take on her was that her skills don't stack up in garment construction although her creativity and ingenuity might be superior. I could be all wrong but that's how I justified such a poorly constructed dress.
What did surprise me was the challenge being fairly wide open and quality fabrics offered right off the bat. I remember the other seasons had the contestants struggling with materials or odd challenges. This 1st challenge seemed pretty run-of-the mill....."chose fabric and make what ever you want" didn't seem like a challenge at all!
I've got my eye on Carmen - she seemed interesting to me. As well as Rami. Now I don't recall who created one dress that I loved which had a burgundy bottom with a floral bodice. It was lovely.
Barb - What do you mean by not seeing break out stars?

Well, I might not be remembering too well, but I thought some of the people we saw in the past seasons were new to the design field or just getting started so it was fun to see some of them "break" away from the pack and show some real talent.
I do agree with you that the level of design will be exciting! I have my eye on Victorya and Rami so far.

So is anybody else watching? Love to hear your comments...
So far Rami and Victorya have stepped up. I think Victorya got the SJP look perfectly, but added her own flavor to it. I wasn't surprised she was chosen. Does anyone remember what type of fabric she used? I'd like to know but somehow have lost that to the deep storage of my brain and can't retreive it

I'm watching and really enjoying the competition. Barb, I don't recall hearing what Victorya used for fabric. I don't know if they said.
This week's challenge - WOW!!! I've done some tailoring in my time - and even simple jacket making is so time consuming for me, not to mention pants and shirts! That was a difficult task to draft, cut, and sew several garments in a day in a half. And some poor time management skills were evident. All that aside - given the time pressures I admire all who participate - it's a lot of work on the fly.
Side note: I didn't see any interfacing used - wonder if they skip that all together?
I agree Rami and Victorya have vision and can execute well. I think Elisa has some wonderful drafting talent - her designs have had minimal seams, appearance is interesting and the dresses have looked beautiful on the models (excluding that train in show #1).

WOW is right! I have never been a production sewist. I like to take my time and amble through projects enjoying each step. It's one of things I always liked about tailoring when I was actively making jackets. I'm amazed at the speed with which some of these garments come together. I was a little frustrated that they didn't have a more time. I would have preferred to see some more "finished" garments.
I also would like ot hear a bit more about each project...I realize the constraints of reality tv, but I find myself wanting more fabric info The fleece jacket? I don't know if I see Tiki in that look, but they all seemed to like the idea.
I agree that Elise bears watching. She seems to be the artist of the group and is able to transform her artwork to wearable garments. I'm always amazed at the runway look of her outfits...very sleek.

I just discovered Project Runway before the holidays...... I"M HOOKED ! I too would like to see more on the fabrics used, the construction techniques, the thought process ..... I'm not a drama person, a lil less of that would suit me fine too. Shoot just realized today is Thursday and I coulda watched it last night UGH...... always next week I guess.

I've only watched half of last night's episode, but from what I've seen so far, you didn't miss much
I'll comment further when I've watched the whole thing.

ok, first episode was the remake for the lovely ladies who had lost ALL THAT WEIGHT !!! - I was so terribly disappointed in Steve.
the second was the one where they go into Hershey on Time's Square and use items from the store to create a wearable garment...... Too Much Fun !!!
My boys wanted to stay up and watch it with me, but I was mean and sent them all to bed LOL

Well, after Hershey's here's where I stand:
I continue to say Rami is the one to watch. I can't figure out why he is doing this show as it would seem he could do just fine on his own. Gillian has been surprisingly refreshing and her skills are top-notch. Victorya's skills also are top notch, but she sometimes fails at presenting a truly creative piece. I hope they get back to some serious designing again soon.
Anybody else have an opinion this season?
