I just heard a promo for a show that will air tonight on National Geographic. The Secret History of the Bra.
I will try to record it and watch it over the weekend. If anyone else watches, hope you'll post your comments here.

Well, I watched the recording of Secret History of the Bra. It's part of a series on National Geographic called Manmade. I thought it might be interesting just from a "users" point of view, but I was also pleasantly surpised to see such an emphasis on the fabrications used. You get a mini documentary on silk production in Vietnam and one on the chemical make-up of spandex. In addition you learn about the construction process, the components such as underwires and clasps and some of the latest scientific research on sports bras. All in all, worth the time to watch it. Did anyone else see it?

If you missed it, it airs again on Friday, October 5th at 6:00 p.m. EDT

Many of you have probably seen the PBS special on Haute Couture. I had a tape generously loaned to me by Judy. I finally watched it last week. It was well worth it! I really enjoyed this documentary on the art of couture. Although I've read about it for years, this was an interesting take on the subject. The members of the "club" as they are referred to in this piece, look on their purchases as art investments. I can totally relate to that point of view. Rather than it being seen as part of a decadent lifestyle, these garments are cared for as works of art to be enjoyed by the owner and then passed on or donated to an appropriate museum.
It left me hungry for more detail about the actual construction, although there are many sources where this is documented so I was satisfied to have seen these interviews. If you get a chance to view it, I recommend it. Nice gift for a fashion afficionado too.
