Swiss Miss or Mister

We are fortunate to see a lot of fine fabrics in our business and it’s always fun to receive samples from our vendors after they’ve travelled overseas.  But some packages are just better than expected and that’s the thrill!!  I literally gasped in delight when I recently opened a package of samples from a favorite friend in the business.  He had told me to expect some fine Swiss cotton.  I guess I haven’t become too jaded yet to appreciate exquisite quality when I see it!  I ordered immediately and we now have some wonderful Swiss cotton shirtings in stock. These are the real deal–Fine cotton woven to perfection with exquisite detail. Fine cottons have the remarkable characteristic of providing a shirt with body and softness. Swiss cotton refers to fabric that is produced in Switzerland.  The cotton is imported from the finest sources in the world and then expertly processed to produce a high quality product.  Sometimes the term swiss cotton is used generically to refer to a high quality cotton fabric, but this is improper use of the term.

The white on white jacquard stripe will be perfect for blouses and dresses or luxurious nighties (not fire retardant!) The narrow tone on tone stripe in white or cornflower blue is a great choice for shirts for him or her.  Finally, a delicate herringbone in two-ply yarns could not be finer!  Two-ply refers to the yarns that are used to weave the fabric.  Two fine yarns twisted together make the fabric more dense and because the yarns are fine, the softness is actually increased over a fabric woven with single ply yarns. We are also told that these fabrics come with a wrinkle resistant finish added. This is pure luxury for the sewer and the wearer.

We’ve adjusted the photo so that you can see the weave close up (the pinkish shadows should be ignored). You will notice a slight sheen on the surface of these cottons which is another indication of exceptional quality of production.

These cottons must feel almost like silk, don’t they? Are you planning on swatching them as a separate pack? If so, I’d be interested to get one.
