I can do that!

I can do that!

I can do that….

How often have you been browsing in a store, online or in a catalog and finding an adorable dress or outfit, you think I can do that!  Yes, that is what we do. We sewists can produce a similar garment to what our non-sewing friends buy in ready-to-wear.  So I’ve had some of those moments lately and wanted to share with you what I found.  Please share your “moments” below in comments or by submitting your finished garment to our Customer Gallery.

Not looking to discredit the retailers.  If you can buy off the rack for size and fit and it fits your budget, go for it.  I do sometimes.  But then there’s always that nagging feeling that I could have done it myself.  Ah, the dilemma for a sewist.

I can do that better!

McCalls Dress #6889

This skirt caught my eye in Ann Taylor.  It wasn’t the fabrication that spoke to me (poly crepe) but the print design.  It reminded me that I could create a similar look with our black and white pique floral, but with a more crisp styling which is more to my taste.

I browsed Pattern Review for a yoke band skirt and came up with several. This is a good basic to start with.

We Just brought in a fabulous cotton poplin in three spring colors. Aqualine, Saffron and Bluebell.
