Hands on Learning

Hands on Learning

The best way to learn about a fabric is to work with it! We can’t possibly make up every piece of fabric that comes through our warehouse, but the next best thing is “studying” the fabric with our hands and our eyes. We had the most fun the other day studying one of our newest pieces of fabric!

This unique piece of goods was woven on a jacquard loom to produce a tapestry-like design. The over/under pattern of the yarns determines that the face appears deep brown and orchid pink while the reverse side shows willow green. The design created by the jacquard pattern is a cascade of the three dominant colors (dark brown, orchid pink and willow) highlighted with a silvery metallic thread. What a feast for the eyes! Some of us liked the reverse enough to make it the face! The hand is soft and supple, giving this some of the qualities of a stable knit instead of a woven. We think this is one of the statement pieces this season.

    Hi Barb,
I bought this fabric from you and love it. It really is a very unusual fabric. It has much softer and more supple hand than I expected. What do you guys see made from this fabric?
