Two months out of the year, the wholesale garment district is a pretty quiet place. In contrast to the constant hub-bub ten months out of the year, July and December are slow…time for catching up and laying out plans for the upcoming season. But it’s not all quiet! My mailbox continues to be full to the brim of swatches for my consideration. Some are sending me beautiful winter goods, but we’re ready to buy for our spring season! If we see something fabulous, we don’t pass it up. Case in point would be the wonderful faux fur with suede backing (see post from December 12th, A Kick Up). However, in general, the word is out that we’re ready for spring. Another friend in the business has just returned from an extensive European buying trip. Oh, the wonderful swiss cottons they brought back! We’ll be stocking some of those for sure. In addition, we were thrilled with some of the embroideries, more on that in a future post. Just this morning I purchased two delicious shades of lightweight faux suede–muted periwinkle and soft aqua-yum!!
Every sample that comes in is evaluated immediately so as not to lose it to the wider market. Is it worthy of the Sawyer Brook name? Will it enhance the story we are telling in a collection? Is it better suited to stand on its own as a special offer for the web and/or package stuffer? Will it broaden our offerings for our customers or is it more of the same? What is the value (price vs.quality)? Does it test out to be the fiber that we are promised? Is it just too good to pass up?? Yes, we are fabric junkies too!
So you see, no rest for the weary! We are working very hard to line up a fabulous Spring 2007. I’ll be posting some of our delicious finds in the coming weeks.
