A Look at Fall 2014 at SBDF

Wrapped Fabrics
We have so much fabric shipping into the warehouse right now, it’s almost (not quite) overwhelming! We love the beginning of fashion seasons because it’s like a birthday every day…presents to open, oohs and ahhs, and the inevitable sharing of visions…I would make, etc.
We have had a wonderfully successful experience in the fabric marketplace for this fall.  We couldn’t be happier with the results of our fabric finds and are working madly to get them out to you.  To whet your appetite, here is a round-up of what to expect! We can’t tell you what’s coming when, because we don’t know yet, but we can give you an overview of what to expect. If you are not yet a distinctive touch+ member, this will be an incentive. Members see most of the fabrics first and some of the special pieces don’t make it to the web store at all.

Solid State

Blue Rolls
Sewists are notorious for favoring prints in their fabric choices. In reality, most people wear more solids than prints. The secret to choosing solid fabrics is the quality. A cheap imitation will not serve you well when it comes to a solid woven or knit. This season we have an abundance of ponte knit in a variety of weights and colors. Our favorite fiber blend for this fabric is viscose / nylon / elastane. These goods import from Europe and have a wonderfully soft hand and good recoverability. Great for separates or dresses, depending on the weight. We also like rayon/spandex double knit. These goods are very stable and generally slightly heavier in weight for sturdy separates. But it’s not all about knits This fall, you’ll also see solid silks in crepe and georgette weights, Whether you combine the fabrics in one garment or make several garments in each weight is your choice, but you’ll be please to find these wardrobe staples coming soon. Read on to find out about more weights and fabrications in solids and prints.

Lots of rayon jersey in a variety of colors, wool jersey in bold orange and black, silk jersey in black yummmm.

Prints as Art

If you are going to wear a print, make it count! We have found some spectacular prints in  silk, cotton, rayon and of course, many more of our viscose knits from France.

Handwoven silks, embossed wool/cashmere, wool blended with precious fibers, lofty tweeds and fine herringbones, just to name a few of our tempting offerings.

Suitings like gray flannel and black tropical wool headline the standards we will carry. Look for a rich chocolate brown worsted flannel along with several double cloth wools.

There is so much color coming your way… This is just a taste of what you’ll see in September and October.
