Evelyn Bash Bridal Couture
Mother of the Bride
by Barb Blom, owner of Sawyer Brook Fabrics
September 2005
As you can see below, I've had a busy summer getting ready for our daughter's wedding. No, I did not make her wedding dress! Everyone asks, but this is not my specialty nor my interest. I told Cassie when she was 3 years old not to expect that! We had great fun shopping together and choosing a simple gown that suited her well. My dress on the other hand became a search for the impossible! How many of you have been through that
experience? I really didn't want to make it myself and fortunately I made the right decision as life caught up with us this summer in the form of an unexpected illness for my husband--he's doing fine now.
SO-o-o Evelyn Bash of Evelyn Bash Bridal Couture just happens to work for us 2 days a week in our sample area. She was up to the task, and I was thrilled. After some searching, I chose a luxurious 4-ply
silk crepe in a rich raspberry color. We found a pattern that had some elements that we knew would flatter me -- tailored jacket with a face-framing collar. Evelyn used her design skills to adapt the rest of the pattern to a more flattering silhouette for me. For more details, read on. The wedding day was glorious and I felt fabulous in my Sawyer Brook fabric!!
Barb's ensemble was designed by our own Evelyn Bash, using... Sawyer Brook fabrics and buttons! |

We discussed Barb's style-- tailored, not into glitz, doesn't wear much jewelry and incorporated that into designing with angles to produce drama and effect. The design elements included a stand up collar and angled hems on jacket and skirt.
The problem: Solve potential structural issues between the drapey 4-ply silk and stiff interfacings needed to produce the elemental details...
The solution: Fuse the interfacing to the silk broadcloth underlining! |
